Location: Coatesville School District Main Campus
Project Start Date: June 2006
Project Completion Date: August 2006
Construction Cost: $1.47 Million
Field Area: 91,715 s.f.
Surfacing: Synthetic Turf - FieldTurf Duraspine Monofilament
ELA Sport was retained by the School District’s architectural firm to provide consulting and design services for converting the natural grass field located at the Coatesville High School Stadium to a new infill-type synthetic turf system. The field is primarily utilized for football and the design emphasized this use by including permanent game markings, “pro-style” borders, shadowed yard numbers, bordered end zone lettering, full color end-zones, and a bold midfield graphic of the school’s athletic team logo. The synthetic turf field was installed over a new perimeter field underdrain and a base construction of free draining aggregate with a fine aggregate leveling course. Overall drainage was further enhanced through installation of a track channel (trench) drain system on the inside edge of the existing track, which also served as an anchoring system for the synthetic turf surfacing. In addition to the field, renovation work included replacing the existing goal posts, construction of a new high hump venue and a new pole vault runway. Both areas were completed with a pave-in-place urethane track surfacing material to match the existing running track. All improvements were completed utilizing the AEPA Pennsylvania Cooperative Purchasing Program.
ELA Sport provided all consulting, design, construction document preparation, and related services for the project, including local municipal stormwater management permitting as well as erosion and sediment control planning/NPDES permitting.
