When the East Stroudsburg Area School District decided to renovate Memorial Field as part of the South High School expansion and renovation project, they turned to ELA Sport for professional planning, design, and construction phase services. Facing an aggressive schedule and tight budget constraints, the facilities team proceeded with the project utilizing a design-build approach facilitated through the Pennsylvania Co-Operative Purchasing Program. Working in a close partnership with the District facilities staff, ELA Sport provided athletic facility consulting, design, engineering services, and provided design-build project management. As the project manager, ELA Sport was responsible for assembling and coordinating the construction team of prime contractors and specialty contractors for each procurement contract, including site construction, synthetic turf field installation, running track construction, new grandstands and renovations, and specialty construction areas.
The focus of the Memorial Field renovation included replacing the natural grass field surface with a new 81,000 s.f. multipurpose synthetic turf field. The new field features a monofilament synthetic turf fiber with sand and rubber infill, permanent markings for football, soccer, and field hockey, and features a midfield logo rendered in the team colors. The stadium area was reconfigured to include a new “all-weather” 8-lane running track surfaced with a rubber base mat with polyurethane surface, as well as new track and field venue areas. Construction of new 1,100 seat visitor side grandstands and renovating the home grandstands to include handicap accessible seating platforms, ramps, and other ADA improvements completed the renovations. Other improvements included pedestrian walkways and entry/court areas, track fencing, ornamental perimeter fencing and gates, relocation of the existing scoreboard, stormwater and drainage improvements, and landscaping.
The entire project, from design through construction, was completed in approximately five (5) months.
