Project Description
Project Start Date: May 2008
Project Completion Date: November 2008
Construction Cost: $1.1 Million
Court Surfacing: Plexipave-Standard
The Garnet Valley School District was faced with a need to replace, relocate and increase the number of their competition tennis courts. The District acquired a narrow 2.9 acre piece of property adjacent to the High School campus which required both subdivision and rezoning to allow the tract to be developed. The site had a moderate grade falling north to south as well as a stream and wetlands which had to be avoided. These factors limited the design options.
ELA Sport was able to provide a design which allowed the desire number of eight courts to be built. The existing grade on the site required an extensive amount of segmental retaining walls which were designed to allow the courts to be terraced to meet existing grade. The limited size of the tract mandated the use of both underground and surface storm water detention. A pathway connecting to the High School parking lot was needed so the School District worked with a local engineer to design a wooden footbridge to span the wingwalls of an adjacent culvert while ELA configured the path.
