Project Description
The historic Borough of Lititz, with its thriving downtown business center, is located at the
crossroads of PA Route 501 (Broad Street) and PA Route 772 (Main Street). Throughout the year,
these roadways become congested due to daily and special-event traffic, truck traffic supporting
local businesses, and school-bus traffic serving the downtown Lititz Elementary School and nearby
Middle School and High School.
All of these factors were evaluated as ELA Group was tasked with developing multiple traffic signal
timing and coordination plans.
Upon evaluating the conditions and considering various alternatives, we developed extensive plans
for the Borough which included a variety of improvements. The plan interconnected and coordinated
all of the Borough’s traffic signals. We developed 5 separate timing and coordination programs for
the various peak and off-peak time periods. We also prepared a separate coordination plan relating
to school-bus traffic on Broad Street and Orange Street. The result of these improvements was
reduced congestion and shorter queuing lengths along both Broad Street and Main Street.
