Project Description
Located across from the Ross Elementary School along North Market Street, the City of Lancaster developed a small neighborhood park on a .10-acre former residential parcel. The park was opened for public use in the Fall of 1998. Through public grant money, including the Lancaster County Parks Initiative, the City of Lancaster acquired the land and developed the park, which was needed to provide an active/passive recreation space for this primarily urban residential area in the City of Lancaster. Identifying "youth play" as the primary need, the park includes a 1,400 square foot play area with play structure as the main park element. The play area is bordered by tinted concrete edging, pre-cast concrete segmental retaining walls, and incorporates an existing 30-inch caliper cherry tree in the play area. Other improvements include a tinted and stamped serpentine concrete walk, period lighting, period style benches, fencing, and landscaping.
Services Rendered
Beginning work in the spring of 1997, ELA Group, Inc. designed and prepared construction documents for all park improvements, including demolition of the existing dwellings as a separate bid package. ELA Group, Inc. coordinated with the City of Lancaster Engineering and Parks Staff throughout the design and construction process to develop a park meeting the needs of the community and the project construction budget. Services also included bidding and construction administrative services.
