Project Description
Construction Cost: $360,000
Court Surfacing: Fortified Acrylic (Plexipave)
Field Surfacing: Synthetic Turf-FieldTurf Monofilament 2.0

The Pocono Mountain Charter School retained ELA Sport to consult, design, and prepare construction drawings for a new outdoor athletic and recreation complex to enhance the athletic and physical education opportunities available at this private K-12 school located in the Pennsylvania Pocono Mountain Region. The new multiuse sport complex was proposed on an approximate 10-acre parcel located at the perimeter of the existing private school that was encumbered by a four (4) acre on-lot sanitary sewage facility as well as structure setback requirements from the two (2) adjoining public roadways. Working within these parameters, ELA Sport worked with school staff to develop a budget and program to include two (2) hard surface tennis courts, two (2) handball courts, including concrete rebound wall, “flexible” court planning to accommodate volleyball and basketball, and incorporation of a synthetic turf athletic practice and physical education area. The final design of the facility incorporated these program elements in a 14,000 square foot multiuse hard surface sport court and a 17,000 square foot multiuse synthetic turf practice and play area.

ELA Sport designed other site support facilities to maximize use of the available tract area including design of an underground stormwater detention system that was incorporated as part of the synthetic turf practice field area. The system was designed to attenuate runoff from the new hard surface (impervious) court area to meet both local and State stormwater management and water quality discharge requirements. Other site enhancements and support facilities included a pedestrian walkway connection to the existing school campus, landscape improvements, and fencing.
