ELA Group, Inc. was hired by Penn State University, York Campus, to create a new entrance to the John Romano Administration Building.
The project design required incorporating and relocating the Lion Statue to prominent locations, allowing for ADA accessibility to the building, and creating a gathering space for students and visitors outside the entrance to the building.
The Campus staff also requested a centralized water feature to highlight the entrance area.
The ELA Group Design Team designed a circular plaza with a black basalt water feature. Pigmented concrete of various colors and concrete unit pavers were central to the design to create interest in the plaza area. The designers included stadium-style seating, retaining wall seating, and benches to allow pedestrians a place to gather.
A detailed landscape design plan was also implemented for the entire project area. The project, which cost $616,150, was completed in August 2014.
